The first game, the CSL’s London City vs. AEK London of the Western Ontario Soccer League, will be played this Friday, August 4 at The Cove in London. There will be two further games this upcoming Civic Holiday long weekend, one in Ottawa and one at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, and a fourth game will bring together the Toronto Lynx with amateur team Hamilton Serbians at the Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton on August 13.
The game in the nation’s capital on Sunday has Ottawa St. Anthony Italia of the Ottawa Carlton Soccer League hosting Windsor Border Stars of the CSL. The Ottawa club has been the focal point for the Italian community in Eastern Ontario for more than 50 years and their senior amateur team is considered to be a strong contender to advance. These same teams met in the Open Canada Cup Final on September 5, 2004, with Border Stars winning a penalty kick decider following extra time.
On Civic Holiday Monday, Italia Shooters (CSL) are at home to Brampton Stallions (CSL) at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, then on August 13 Hamilton Serbians of the Ontario Soccer League have their big test with the Toronto Lynx from that strong North American USL First Division. The semifinals and final will be played in London during the Labour Day weekend at the beginning of September to wrap-up the 2006 Open Canada Cup competition that got underway May 20.
