The CPSL Open Canada Cup, the one single competition open to all senior menís teams in Canada, amateur or professional, will kickoff with the Preliminary Round on May 21.
Itís the third season of the popular competition which is aimed eventually to provide Canada with a total club championship.
The competition would be a stepping stone to the CONCACAF club championship for qualifying teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean.
Amateur team entries will start the Open Canada Cup during the Victoria Day weekend of May 21 to 23, with the surviving teams advancing to the Second Round. Thatís when the professional teams enter the picture during the Canada Day long weekend July 1 to 3. The Third Round will be played during the Civic Holiday weekend July 30, 31 and August 1, with the final weekend September 3 -5, the Open Canada Cup Final on Labour Day, September 5.
Windsor-based Border Stars won last seasonís Open Canada Cup in their inaugural season, a victory on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation 90 minutes plus 30 minutes of overtime against a gutsy Ottawa St. Anthony Italia amateur team, while in 2003 London City were victorious in also a penalty kick win over Metro Lions in an all-pro final.
