IT'S OPEN CANADA CUP WEEKEND

Play resumes in the CPSL-sponsored Open Canada Cup on Friday night when the first of five third round games will be played over this Civic Holiday long weekend.

The third round will kickoff with one game on Friday between London City and St. Catharines Wolves at the Cove Road ground in London and this will be followed by a second game on Sunday when Ottawa Wizards clash with Laval Dynamites at the OZ Stadium at Carp.

The three remaining games will now be played Civic Holiday Monday, August 4, a change from the previously announced three games on Saturday. These games will be played at the Dufferin Clark home ground of Vaughan Sun Devils, situated on the east side of Dufferin Street, just north of Steeles Avenue in Vaughan.

One league game has been postponed this week�the Hamilton Thunder vs. Toronto Croatia game scheduled for Thursday, July 31 and tentatively rescheduled for Friday, August 1 will now be played on Thursday, September 25 at 8 pm.

Winning teams from this weekend�s third round Open Canada Cup games will advance to the competition�s final weekend during the Labour Day holiday weekend August 29 to September 1, with the final game being played on Labour Day, Monday, September 1.

This is the first year senior amateur teams have been invited to participate and entries were received from some of the strongest teams in Ontario and Quebec. Two amateur teams, Kanata from the Ottawa area and AEK of London, have progressed to this third round.

The winning team will receive the Open Canada Cup trophy and a cash prize of $10,000.
