UNBEATEN SUPRA KEEP ROLLING ALONG
Toronto Supra continue their remarkable unbeaten streak of what is now 10 league and cup games with a 2-0 defeat of Metro Lions in a hard fought, tense encounter at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League on Thursday night.
The other game scheduled, Hamilton Thunder vs. Toronto Croatia at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton was postponed and is rescheduled for September 25.
In one game played on Wednesday night, Carlo Arghittu of St. Catharines Roma Wolves led his team with a natural hat-trick for a 3-1 win over North York Astros.
Samuel Afriyie opened the scoring for Supra at the 16th minute mark in what has been described as one of the most spectacular goals in the CPSL campaign. Afriyie collected the ball just inside the Lions� half to make his way in a brilliant solo effort to beat Gregory Drakes in the Lions� net.
Metro Lions, a slumping team busy making changes to find a winning formula, fought for the equalizer during the reaminder of the first half and into the second half, but it was Supra which eventually scored when Danny Amaral found the net with 10 minutes remaining.
Supra now have 6-0-2 WLT record for 20 points and with Ottawa Wizards the only two teams without a loss this season. Supra trail Wizards by five points in the Eastern Conference, but the west end Toronto team has a game in hand. Metro Lions continue to struggle with a 1-5-2 record for five points.
Roma Wolves forward Carlo Arghittu was outstanding in scoring a natural hat-trick to lead his team to a 3-1 win over North York Astros in the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League on Wednesday.
Arghittu struck at 20, 49 and 86 minutes in a game well played but which flared up with less than 10 minutes remaining to result in a player from each team being ejected.
Astros�striker Francisco Dos Santos put the ball past St. Catharines goalkeeper Claudio Perri for the only North York goal scored two minutes after the 1-0 interval.
The win improves St. Catharines Roma Wolves to a 4-4-1 WLT record for 13 points and an elevation to third in the Western Conference standings, while North York Astros remain at 11 points from a 3-5-2 record.
