TORONTO SUPRA, HAMILTON THUNDER SCORE BIG WINS

From bottom to the top is what a hammering of St. Catharines Roma Wolves means to Toronto Supra when at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke Monday night the west-end Toronto team coasted to 5-0 score by half-time to take over top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

At the same time just a little further north, Hamilton Thunder were outplaying nine-men North York Astros on their way to a 4-0 romp at Esther Shiner Stadium to remind the Western Conference that the Steeltown squad is very much in the hunt despite the recent success of conference leaders, Brampton Hitmen.

Martin Peraza (24 and 30 minutes) and Mike Di Luca (44 and 45 minutes) each scored twice for Supra, while Samuel Afriyie struck the fifth at the 39th minute mark. Its been an impressive turnaround for Toronto Supra following the teams surprising last place finish at the end of 2002 season, but the promise of owner Isac Cambas that things would change dramatically this year, has been kept.

Our fans deserve better and Im going to see they have a team to be proud of, said Cambas following a disappointing 2002.

Supra now have 27 points and top position in the east with an 8-0-3 WLT record, a point above Ottawa Wizards.

St. Catharines are at 5-5-1 for 16 points and third position in the west.

Hamilton striker Kevin De Serpa (penalty at 43 minutes and at 86 minutes) and new signing Petar Curic (78 minutes and 87 minutes) each scored a pair for the Thunder in a game that produced two red cards and a slew of yellows, with the ejections going to the Astros for a two-man disadvantage all of the second half.

Hamilton picks up an important three points to stay in contention for Western Conference honours. They now have a 5-2-3 WLT record for 18 points and second spot, six points behind Brampton and two points in front of St. Catharines Wolves.
