WIZARDS HELD TO 1-1 TIE

Vaughan Sun Devils held the unbeaten Ottawa Wizards to a 1-1 tie at Dufferin Clark on Saturday, but the point was enough to lift the Wizards back on top of the Eastern Conference.

In the second game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League, Hamilton Thunder striker Kevin De Serpa led his team with two goals to 3-1 victory over Laval Dynamites and that win moved Hamilton to a tie with Brampton Hitmen at the top of the Western Conference.

There was one game played on Friday night when Toronto Croatia blanked Mississauga Olympians, 3-0, at Memorial Park in Streetsville.

At Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton, the Thunder took a 1-0 lead on Kevin De Serpas penalty kick at the 24th minute mark and De Serpa scored his second after 39 minutes. The goal also came from a set play--a well struck free kick from 20 yards.

Following a 2-0 half-time score, Les Dynamites came back at the 77th minute mark when Bachir Housepian picked up the loose ball to find the net following a goalmouth collision between Hamilton goalkeeper Roberto Ferrari and team-mate Nikola Andrevic.

Adam Leggett scored Hamiltons third goal in added time for a 3-1 final score.

The win improves Hamilton to a 7-2-3 WLT record for 24 points, bringing the Steeltown team to a tie for top position in the Western Conference with Brampton Hitmen, both teams having played 12 games.

Ottawa midfielder Charles Gbeke opened the scoring for the Wizards at the 68th minute mark following a scoreless tie at half-time and the goal held up until added time when at 91 minutes Andre Rollins tied the game for the Sun Devils.

The point gives Ottawa an 8-0-3 WLT record for 27 points, tied with Toronto Supra at the top of the standings. The Wizards have a superior goal average. These two teams meet on Sunday afternoon at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke.
