With both clubs bidding for a berth in the playoffs, Toronto Croatia scored an important 3-1 Western Conference win over North York Astros at Memorial Park in Streetsville, the only game played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Wednesday

. On Tuesday night at Brian Timmis Stadium in Hamilton, the Hamilton Thunder and midfielder Stalin Cardenas with three goals looked powerful in a 6-0 victory over St. Catharines Roma Wolves.

Francisco Dos Santos opened the scoring for the Astros at Memorial Park almost immediately after the kickoff when the Brazilian-born striker lobbed the ball from 35 yards over the head of an advancing Croatia keeper George Azcurra

But just three minutes later, what appeared to be an own goal by a North York Astros defender was credited to Croatias Ante Musa for a 1-1 score.

Toronto Croatia went ahead 2-1 at the 14th minute mark on a goal by Halberto Harris and 20 minutes later Croatia were down to 10 men when Tom Granic was ejected after picking up two cautions.

The score at half-time was 2-1 and the score remained that way until the 89th minute when Croatia made it 3-1 on a goal by Jure Pavic.

With both teams battling for the third and last play off spot in the Western Conference, the win puts Croatia in a good position to make a bid, with a 6-7-0 WLT record for fourth place in the standings and 18 points. Thats two points short of third place St. Catharines Wolves which has played one game more.

North York Astros are now in a difficult position to make a bid for the third place playoff position, they have a 3-8-3 record in sixth position with 12 points.

Stalin Cardenas scored a natural hat-trick to lead Hamilton Thunder to a resounding 6-0 thrashing of St. Catharines Wolves on Tuesday night, his goals coming at the 12th, 41st and 52nd minutes. Zeljko Dukic opened the scoring for Thunder just five minutes following the opening whistle.

David Moya struck Hamilton's fourth goal after 71 minutes and Srdjan Marcovic rounded off the scoring with the sixth goal 10 minutes from time.

The win opens a three-point gap at the top of the Western Conference, Hamilton now showing a 8-2-3 WLT record for 27 points, three points in front of Brampton Hitmen with a 7-3-3 record. The loss leaves St. Catharines with a 6-2-2 record and third place with 20 points
