WIZARDS WIN BIG TWICE

Ottawa Wizards made short work of their weekend opposition to defeat Mississauga Olympians 4-0 Saturday, then London City 6-0 on Sunday, for two of nine games in the Canadian Professional Soccer League over the weekend.

With most of the teams fighting for a playoff berth, several weekend games were crucial to gaining one of the top three positions in each conference.

Toronto Supra picked up four points following a 2-2 tie with Toronto Croatia on Friday night, then a 3-1 victory over Brampton Hitmen on Sunday to stay in second position in the east, two points back of the Wizards.

Laval Dynamites also collected four points following a 1-0 win over London City on Saturday, then a 2-2 tie with Mississauga Olympians Sunday, and the Quebec-based side sits in fourth position with 20 points in the east.

Metro Lions played just one game over the weekend, a 5-2 victory over bottom team Durham Flames on Sunday, and St. Catharines Wolves also picked up three points following their 2-1 win over North York Astros.

Metro Lions are fifth in the east with 15 points, while St. Catharines are in a better position for a playoff berth, now sitting third in the west.

On Friday night Vaughan Sun Devils played to a scoreless tie with Hamilton Thunder.

The most notable goalscorers over the weekend were Charles Gbeke with a 3-goal natural hat-trick in the 6-0 win over London City on Sunday, he has 10 in the season��.. Supra�s Danny Amaral struck once on Saturday, then twice on Sunday for 11 on the season��� Carlo Arghittu of St. Catharines leads the goalscoring race with 15 following a pair in a winning 2-1 cause on Sunday���. Jahmo Welch of Durham Flames has a remarkable 11 goals following his two goals in a losing 5-2 cause on Sunday. Welch has about 50 per cent of the Flames� 21 goals.
