SUN DEVILS IN THE FINAL

Vaughan Sun Devils defeated Western Conference winners Hamilton Thunder on two first half goals Saturday to advance to the final of the Rogers Cup for the CPSL Championship.

The 2-0 victory for Sun Devils, together with the Brampton Hitmen decider on penalty kicks on Friday, bring these teams together in the big finale on Sunday afternoon, a game that will end the 2003 campaign of the Canadian Professional Soccer League.

Forward Mathew Palleschi opened the scoring for the Sun Devils after just 7 minutes of play and midfielder Bayete Smith added a second at the 44th minute mark.

Vaughan finished third in the Eastern Conference on a win in their last game of the regular league season against Durham Flames, while Brampton was a strong runner-up finisher in the Western Conference.

Game time Sunday afternoon is 3.15 pm and is followed by the CPSL’s Annual Awards Dinner.
