NEWS
THE CPSL THIS WEEK

Players previously connected to Vaughan Shooters making an impression elsewhere are Andres Arango, a 20 year old defender now with the Toronto Lynx following a brief spell with Montreal Impact of the A-League, and Adrian Cann, 23, a midfielder attracting attention from MLS and A-League clubs.

Arango was a member of the under-20 Canadian national team that qualified for the 2003 World Youth Championship. He was part of a deal involving the transfer to Montreal of Lynx full-back Mauricio Vincello and that speaks volumes of Arangos ability.

Edgar Bartolomeu, a 27 year old defender earlier with North York Astros and Brampton Hitmen, completed his Rookie Year with NY/NJ Metrostars of Major League Soccer with 13 games last year and has been retained for the upcoming season.

Jason Crnic, a striker and Roberto Ferrari, a goalkeeper with Hamilton Thunder, are both on trial with Croatian First Division side NK Inter Zapresic, while Ryan Thompson is well established now with Hadjuk Split, one of the high profile teams in Croatia and Europe. Hamilton Thunder is having good success with their more talented players with no less than five on trial or signed in Europe.

Semir Mesanovic, a midfielder with London City and Toronto Croatia and a member of Canadas Olympic squad, is helping Milwaukee Wave to lead the Central Division of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).

Tony Camacho, director of game officials for the CPSL, has resigned that position and will be replaced for all referee appointments in the Canadian Professional Soccer League by Walter Kirchner, a long-time referee at the higher level with considerable experience on the administrative side of officiating, including match appointments. Camacho is a member of the select group of Canadian referees with the FIFA badge and several important overseas international matches under his belt.

Dave Benning, formerly with Vaughan Sun Devils following some years as the technical director for the Glen Shields organization, is now the Technical Programs Manager with the Canadian Soccer Association and is based at one of the CSAs satellite offices at The Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario.
