DEADLINE LOOMS FOR OPEN CANADA CUP ENTRY

Any number of teams from last years entries were given a chance to win the inaugural CPSL Open Canada Cup, but for whatever reason no one counted on London City.

The team that promotes player developmentbut not at the expense of winning, GM/headcoach Harry Gauss is quick to point outturned the tables on the best in the CPSL and some very strong amateurs, to lift the hardware and a cheque for $10 thousand.

It was a tough 1-1 encounter to the 90-minute mark, followed by the team from Southwestern Ontario outscoring Metro Lions 4-2 on penalty kicks, a thriller at The Cove in London on September 1.

Its year two now and the Open Canada Cup resumes on May 21 and the entries are coming in to bring the amateurs and pro teams together in a competition designed in years to come to single out the best club side in Canada. The next stage is entry in the CONCACAF regions club championship and beyond.

But that is in the future and the focus today is on an April 30 deadline looming up quickly. The draw for the Preliminary Round will take place during May and these games will be played during the Victoria Day Weekend, May 21 24.

Round Two will introduce the pro teams for games during the Canada Day weekend, July 1 4 and any A-League entries will be introduced in Round Three to be played during the Civic Holiday weekend of July 30 to August 2.

The semi-finals are scheduled for September 3 5 with the final game on Labour Day, September 6.
