BOAVISTA ONE OF PORTUGAL'S BEST
Mayor of Toronto David Miller talks soccer while extending greetings and a welcome to the media, VIPs and team owners at the Pre-season Press Conference of the Canadian Professional Soccer League.

A top-flight European side will be in Toronto and London this month to play against Canadian Professional Soccer League opposition.

Boavista F.C. of the Portuguese Super League and one of the most prominent teams in that country during the past two years, will arrive in Toronto on May 27 for exhibition games against a CPSL Locust Select side on May 28 and Toronto Supra on May 30.

This, and other announcements were made at a well-attended Pre-season Press Conference at Toronto City Hall on May 17.

Boavista won the Portuguese Super League title for the first time in the 2000-2001 season and in doing so became just the fifth team in the history of that league to win the championship.

Last year, Boavista was rated one Europe�s top teams when they advanced to the semi-final of the UEFA Cup, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Glasgow Celtic.

Boavista ended the current season in eighth position with a 12-11-11 record in the Portuguese first division.

The game on Friday, May 28 will be played at the Cove Road Ground, home of the CPSL�s London City. Kickoff is scheduled for 8.10 p.m. with tickets on sale at the ground for $30, but when purchased in advance in increments of two the price drops to $15.

The second game two days later on Sunday, May 30 will be played at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke against Toronto Supra of the CPSL. Toronto Supra are the promoters of the Boavista visit with owner Isac Cambas negotiating the trip to Canada as an extension of a visit to the U.S. where the Portuguese side has a game on May 26 game against NY/NJ MetroStars of Major League Soccer.

The Boavista vs. Toronto Supra encounter will kickoff at 6.30 p.m.

Tickets for the Toronto Supra vs. Boavista game on at Centennial Stadium is also $30 with an advance sale price of $25.
