SUPRA, DURHAM STORM WIN

Toronto Supra are outright winners of the Eastern Conference with a 3-1 victory over London City at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, one of two games played in the Canadian Professional Soccer League Friday night, while in the other game at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa, Durham Storm continued its late-season surge with a 3-2 win over St. Catharines Wolves to give the Durham Region team its second win of the season and a three-game unbeaten string.

A highlight of the last Friday night of the CPSL regular season was the 20th strike of the 2004 campaign by London City standout Paul Munster who slammed his goal into the Toronto Supra net to continue as the runaway leader of the CPSL scoring title. The Northern Ireland born Munster is six in front of Supras captain Danny Amaral who scored twice to lead his team to the 3-1 win.

Jose Moreira opened the scoring for Supra at the sixth minute mark on Friday night and captain Danny Amaral made it 2-0 at 28 minutes for a 2-0 half-time score

Paul Munster of London City struck at the 54th minute his 20th of the season to cut the lead to 2-1, but in a hard-fought late second half Danny Amaral scored his second and 14th of the season to give Toronto Supra a 3-1 victory and the Eastern Conference title.

Supra now have a 13-1-4 WLT record for 43 points, and have two games remaining in the regular season against Durham Storm and Metro Lions.

St. Catharines veteran midfielder Lucio Ianeiro opened the scoring at the 15 minute mark for his team at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa but Storms Edson Bersedan tied the game for a 1-1 score at the break.

Domico Coddington put Durham ahead, Paul Rayment made it 3-1 and St. Catharines Tony Carbonara cut the lead to 3-2 in the closing minutes for the final score.

Durham improves to 2-16-1 for 7 points and with one game remaining will end the season at the foot of the Eastern Conference and St. Catharines are in a similar position in the west, they have a 3-11-5 record for 14 points with one game to go.
