Leo Laurito about to score the opening first half goal for Toronto Croatia in 2-0 semi-final win over Hamilton Thunder
It's Vaughan Shooters and Toronto Croatia in the CPSL Championship Final on Monday.
Vaughan Shooters were just too much for Toronto Supra, defeating the Eastern Conference winners 4-1 in the the first semi-final game at Victoria Park in Brampton Saturday, and this was followed by a 2-0 shutout second semi-final win by Toronto Croatia over Hamilton Thunder, winners of the Western Conference title.
On Friday at the same ground, Toronto Croatia eliminated reigning CPSL title holders Brampton Hitmen in their bid for a repeat of the CPSL Championship, by a 3-1 score in a fast-paced wild card game at Victoria Park in Brampton Friday night.
Croatia had to overcome a 1-0 half-time deficit to score three in the second half and earn a berth into the semi-final.
CPSL CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE���
Brampton opened the scoring at the 37th minute mark on a goal by Jonathan Bustamante for 1-0 at the break.
Toronto Croatia midfielder Zvjezdan Kresic tied the game at 51 minutes and Halburto Harris made it 2-1 at the 68th minute mark.
Brampton pressed for a late equalizer and twice missed close opportunities to beat Croatia goalkeeper George Azcurra, but Croatia put the game out of reach in injury time when forward Leo Laurito put the ball past Brampton �keeper Tony Swaminathan for a 3-1 final score officially recorded at 93 minutes.
Toronto Croatia will now meet Hamilton Thunder in the second semi-final Saturday, a 1 p.m. kickoff following the Toronto Supra vs. Vaughan Shooters semi-final at 10 o�clock in the morning.
