DURHAM FLAMES OFF THE MARK WITH 3-2 WIN OVER LONDON CITY

Durham Flames made amends for a season opener 2-1 loss to St. Catharines Roma Wolves on May 24 by defeating London City, 3-2, at the Cove Road ground in London Friday.

City went ahead in this their first game of the season on a goal at the 29th minute mark by Eric Tafaj and Durham tied the game 1-1 just seven minute later on a goal by Jahmo Welch, his second of the season.

Jamal Jupiter put the Flames 2-1 up at the 60th minute mark and Johmo Welch scored his third of the season to make it 3-1 after 86 minutes.

London City pulled one back on a penalty kick at the 90th minute mark, Isa Bulku making no mistake from the spot.

Durham finished the 2002 season in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-10-2 WLT record, while London City, a team focused on youth development for exceptional players in Southwestern Ontario including three standouts who had overseas trials last season, ended the 2002 campaign with a 2-10-7 record in the west.

London City’s next game is at home to Mississauga Olympians next Friday, June 6, while the Flames return to action the following day, a home encounter with Hamilton Thunder at the Civic Stadium in Oshawa.
