OLYMPIANS SCORE IN DYING SECONDS OF GAME APPEARED WON BY YOUNG LONDON CITY SQUAD

A goal in the last few seconds produced a 1-1 tie between London City and Mississauga Olympians at Cove Road in London Friday and while this was taking place, Vaughan Sun Devils and Metro Lions battled to a scoreless tie at the Dufferin Clark ground in Vaughan, just north of Toronto.

A goal by London Citys Andrew Logue at the 32nd minute mark of a hard-fought contest appeared to give the City its first win of the new season until Johnny Matas found the net with just seconds remaining in the game with Mississauga Olympians. The tie was a heartbreaker for the young London City squad playing a team of veterans and a visiting team favoured to win its opening game of the season.

The scoreless tie, involving a Sun Devils team that was the final product of a merger with last years York Region Shooters, was played before a well-attended crowd in fine opening night weather.

London City will now play its third game of the season at Cove Road next Friday, while the Olympians travel to Hamilton for a game with the Thunder the night before, on Thursday, June 12.

The Sun Devils are also at home next Friday, they host Brampton Hitmen, while Metro Lions will not see action until June 16, a clash with North York Astros at Esther Shiner Stadium.
